Just wanted to say -- the committee did another great job with the reunion this year! We really enjoyed it! Hats off to the Committee! I must admit I was a little puzzled about the time of day the Poor Souls played on Saturday!? I don't understand why the played Saturday afternoon and not Saturday night! I heard someone say something about some people want to phase them out all together. I for one, know that it would not be 60's reunion without them there. The Poor Souls are as much a part of this reunion as anyone. I hope the rumor I heard IS NOT TRUE !!! I would be very upset to think the committee gave them the boot!! Sorry, but I had to put my 2 cents worth in! |

Hi Everyone, I’m Johnny B (John Barkley) your host of the Carolina Beach Party Radio Network that airs Friday on 1050 WLON Lincolnton, NC (hrnb.com) and Saturday 91.7 WSGE (wsge.org). For the past several years I have been hearing of this great reunion of 60’s…I think what you all have is very unique and gratifying way of preserving the music, the dance and most all the memories of then and even the new ones..Over the past few years on my radio shows I have started tagging “Harding~West” and the reunion to the conclusion of one of those great 60’s songs…I just wish that I could have been there with you all when it was all going down..What an incredible time that must have been..I hope you all have a great time at the reunion.. This year I will be in North Myrtle Beach during the time of the reunion. Mike “Tiny” Femster that helps me with my radio shows will be with me. I just happened on this website today and was completely surpised to see that someone had organized something as good as this. After looking at the photo's and seeing Danny Line, Jack McGee, Rocky Walker, and others, I actually sat here and looked at every single photo, read all the messages, and figured that is is about time for me to jin the crowd, if you guys will have me. I did not actually graduate from Harding with my class in 1966. Regardless of what anyone has heard, my family moved to New Orleans and I graduated from East Jefferson High School in NO. I attended Seviersville Elementary, Piedmont Jr. high, Spaugh Jr. high and went to Harding until October when we moved to NO. Over the years I've ran tinto people from "bcak in the day" and some have told me that heard I was dead, in prision, etc., etc. Nope, I'm still here, although I have had two heart attacks. I've only seen a few classmates since graduation. So, hey everybody. After I graduated from college as a nurse, I lived hither and yon--Nebraska and Texas then back home where the grass is green and there are TREES! I went back to college several times and went into critical care then emergency room. Finally, I retired from nursing and pursued the writing career I always wanted. I have three published books now and two that I'm working on at present. I have a website: www.sarahmcneal.com I still play the violin--not all that well though and I learned how to play the bagpipes. My neighbors can testify that I'm not that great in that either since they're really loud--and annoying. ha ha I'll have to come back and check on you guys to see what others have been doing. | After graduating from NC State College, I taught math at Harding the first five years ('62-'67) of my 47 year career which is not over yet. I have a contract to teach next year, my 36th year, at Charlotte Country Day School. I have just received this updated site and see a few people I went to school with.I miss the school days we had ,as for school no I don't miss it all that much. I went to Coulwood,and wilson Jr. High Schools before going to West.I quit in my Junoir year like an idiot and have regretted it ever since.I went on to get my B.S. from the Univ.of Tenn. but it was never the same. I went into the service ,Navy , and met and married a wonderful lady from California, Sharon . I just wanted to say hi and hope the reunion goes well as I will never be a part of what you do. I don't qualify as a Harding or West Meck graduate but I did spend a few years a Wilson Jr High as well as Berryhill Elementary. I lived on the West Side out near the airport and made a few lifelong friends during a very impressionable time of my life. I think it is absolutely amazing what Harding and West have been able to do keeping the "Old Days" alive as well as continuing friendships for so many years. If my memory serves me correct there must have been a time that school boundry lines was changed . I came back a dated a girl in 1968 that was going to Harding but I do know at one time she would have gone to West from the same location she lived at. Of course we would come from cherryville duing my high school days and go to many of the same places - BBQ King, Town and Country, The Cellar, Park Center and even The Purple Penguin. I would have graduated with many of you guys in 1969 had my mom stuck around instead of moving a little west ... I really love the music of that era and some of you know about "The Friday Night Revival" on WSGE. For some of you graduates that moved away you can still listen onlline live from 6pm until 10pm every friday night by going to www.wsge.org and clicking on listen live. We play a whole lot of the great tunes from the sixties which I refer to as the West side music.. In may I will be doing an all sixties night along with DJ Ed Timberlake at Lynns Dance Club and would love to have this group come on out and party like we used too. I thnk it is May 23rd. Again, this is great what all of you have been able to sustain. Keep it up, it makes me proud to have just lived on the west side for a few years during that wonderful time. I've enjoyed the information and pictures of the reunions at Myrtle Beach. However, I graduated from HHS in 1962, the first year in the new facility, and have not recognized anyone in the pictures. Has anyone from the HHS classes of 1960, 1961, 1962, 1963, and 1964 been attending any of these events? It would be helpful if you could list the first and last names of the people pictured and the school from which they graduated and the year of graduation. I have lived in Kansas, except for 4 years, since being sent here by the USAF in 1967; and therefore do not get to see my classmates except at the HHS class reunions held each 5 years. HHS '67 - i looked at the pictures from the reunion you guys just held at OD and WOW - i didn't recognize anyone from the class of '67. Are you sure these people really went to HHS in '67!!!! i forgot we are turning 60 this year - it doesn't feel that way - but the numbers say we are. I wish there had been some names under the picture - I would love to know who was in that picture. I haven't seen anyone from our class since our 10th class reunion. The reunion sounded like a really great time. We have been to SOS many time and have always had such a fun time at OD. I would love to hear from classmates if you are out there. |

| Harding '65...Last year was my first beach reunion, this year I am going down on Monday and staying all week, the reunion is just a 3 day party where you can meet old friends and just sit around and catch up on all the years since your last seeing them! A great opportunity to meet a whole bunch of new people that have a couple of very similar qualities as you, they grew up on the Westside, a lot of us have never left the westside, and we all went to two really good schools where there was strong rivalry but it was because we were proud of where we went to school and now a good number of years later, we come together and "toast to the best times, the 60's"...If you have never been, please come at least once and I promise, it won't be the last time!! | |||
